cheri roush

sigel & cheri roush are co-founders and sole owners of capacity development corporation (cdc), a company which specializes in the development and management of self storage properties and consulting activities related to self storage.

both sigel & cheri received their undergraduate degrees from northwestern university in 1975. cheri returned to northwestern in 1979 and earned her master's degree in communications studies. at that time, the roushes were resident managers of the second self storage facility built in the chicago area. cheri's master's thesis focused on the marketing of self storage.

their twenty years of experience in the self storage business includes long term involvement with both industry associations. company president cheri roush is a past member of the board of directors of the self service storage association, and a frequent speaker on feasibility, management, and marketing topics at industry conventions.

cdc produced the best-selling video tape, selling space, still the most popular training tape for self storage managers available in the industry. it is in use at the training seminars of major self-storage developers in the us, the uk and australia.

cdc's next video tape, the bottom line: self storage was created to help new developers find financing. this 17 minute tape consists of a series of interviews with self storage experts from across the nation, and educates financial institutions and investors about the nature and benefits of the self storage industry. cdc's most recent productions include 4 marketing videos, a new developer's start-up kit and a financial analysis video entitled raising rents. a new marketing video, spending pennies to make dollars, focusing on the marketing of facilities during their construction and intial rent up phases, will be available in october 1998.

when the american planning association authored their well-known publication, standards for self-service storage facilities (publication # 396), the roushes provided the data research and review prior to publication. in fact, cheri's photograph appears in that publication.

all three industry magazines employ the writing skills of the roushes. for three years sigel contributed a monthly article on management-related topics to inside self storage. he still serves on that magazine's advisory board and periodically writes a feature article. for two years cheri contributed a monthly article to the mini storage messenger under the heading: "for managers only." the self storage association journal published sigel's article, cost effective facility renovation. management by design, a compendium of these articles is available as a workbook for managers and management companies.

the consulting and feasibility work has, for several years, been conducted on a nationwide basis. most recently that work has extended to france and the uk.

in addition, cheri teaches graduate level classes to mba candidates on both management and marketing topics at the lake forest graduate school of management.

the roushes have 20 years of experience in contract management of self storage facilities and currently own 3 self storage projects.
